Ohjaajalegenda Martin Scorsese on tunnettu korkeasta elokuvasivistyksen tasostaan. Hän kuratoi muun muassa omaa nimeään kantavia bokseja Criterion Collectionille vähemmän tunnetuista elokuvahelmistä ympäri maailmaa. Projekti kulkee nimellä Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project.
Baby Driverin ohjannut Edgar Wright päätti koronakaranteenissa katsoa Scorsesen listan parhaista kansainvälisistä elokuvista. Innostuneena siitä hän lähetti kiitoskirjeen Oscar-voittajalle ja kysyi olisiko hänellä listaa brittisuosikeista. Parin kuukauden päästä hän sai listan, ja julkaisi sen luvan kanssa Twitter-tilillään.
